I wanted to be glad and happy with my eyes fully open, without fooling myself in the belief that we lived in a pink world: to be happy to be alive in the full knowledge of all misery, our own included.

Edsger W. Dijkstra, On the role of scientific thought, EWD447

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

(Attributed to) Voltaire.

Being a programmer

As said, I like thinking of myself as a good programmer. Quoting from the Jargon file definition:

hacker

[originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe]

That embodies what I enjoy the most about programming: craftsmanship. To better understand the relation between this and programming, I humbly suggest you to read this book to understand it. It is not about Computer Science, even if it happens to mention computer, but about the roots of our culture, of Eastern culture, and our different approach to reality and rationality. And a whole lot of other important stuff about the world we live in.
Yes, it is about philosophy, but do not get scared by this!
